While each day at our clinic is different with the sorts of appointments we see, the calls we answer, and the people in and out of the clinic each day, everyone on our team has fun amidst the chaos!

Each member of our team has a different morning routine that settles into the typical workday, so if you’re curious about what a day in our life looks like here in our clinic, look no further.

Dr. Emily McMahan, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology

My mornings before work are spent chasing my 6- & 4-year-olds around! I joke that I arrive at the office like a tornado, as I typically “blow in” with my bags, a hot tea, and a lotus!

I prefer at least 30 min. at my desk to look over my morning appointments, get caught up with Jamie on any important information that happens during Jamie’s morning before the Alaskan crew begins, and be prepared to start my day of tinnitus patients.

I am 99% telehealth and 1% in-person, which means every morning I run microphone checks and telehealth link checks and make sure I’m ready to jump into my appointments!

I also touch base with everyone on my team and make sure everyone is ready for their day! This allows us to have the smoothest day possible!

Dr. Haley Shirley, Doctor of Audiology

I am not a morning person, so I usually arrive around 30 minutes early to get set up without having to wake up at a time I think is way too early. I also must always have some kind of drink in the morning, or I don’t feel awake.

From there, I look at my schedule and see what things I need to make sure are ready or take note of anything I need to prep beforehand.

My days are usually a fun mix of hearing aids, tinnitus, hearing testing, and jumping in wherever is needed. No two days are exactly the same for me, which keeps me on my toes!

In between patients I’m usually catching up on notes, helping write articles, or working on miscellaneous things that need to be done.

Sage Clemons, Audiology Resident

I often get an early start to my day and kick off my morning with personal tasks a few hours before work starts. I always arrive at the office with a coffee or tea in hand.

Once I get into the clinic, I typically like to review charts, complete any unfinished tasks from the previous day, and prepare all things for the current day before patients come in. After we open, I spend my day working with patients and learning along the way!

As a student, I get well-rounded clinical exposure here and get to provide diagnostic, hearing aid, tinnitus, VA compensation evaluations, and pediatric services. I love variety, and some of my days are filled with kids, some involve more tinnitus, and some days I work with lots of hearing aids.

Between patients, I work through a running to-do list (often with a snack in hand) that I use to track reports or clinic tasks that need to be done. Inside and outside of the clinic, every day is different and brings a new learning opportunity!

Jamie Block, Office Manager

No two days look the same in my role. My morning typically begins by sending my kids off to school, then I dive into the day by reviewing the schedule and dispatching any necessary paperwork. I check voicemails and return any calls that came in after hours.

My typical responsibilities include:

  • Answering phone calls and scheduling patient appointments

  • Educating patients about Lenire

  • Billing insurance and coordinating patient care logistics

  • Supporting Dr. McMahan at Lenire field clinics across the country, where I manage patient check-in, finalize paperwork, and address any last-minute questions before appointments

Kelly Todd, Audiology Assistant

After getting my two busy kids to school or activities, I come into the office and start my workday.

I start with looking at the schedule and making sure that all of the appointments have the things that they need ready. This includes charging and programming devices, creating invoices in the computer, and getting anything else that is needed for the appointment to go smoothly.

After making sure that everything is ready for the day's appointments, I start on my other duties. These duties include making insurance verification phone calls, opening packages and dispersing them to the appropriate place, getting all outgoing shipments ready to go out the door, scanning documents into patient charts, stocking rooms, and anything that I can do to help the providers.
